Introduction

It is said the word 'Morris' comes from 'Moorish' and that the dancers originally came from the Spain of the Moors. Others, still attempting to keep its roots in the English countryside, say that it is derived from the moors. While Luigi Linguini insists it was named after his cat Boris. (Sorry, Luigi insisted I put that in or he wouldn't give us web space.)

An East German school's English language textbook claims that Morris dancing was brought over to England by a Spanish queen in the 14th Century, so it must be true. In fact, the Black Horse Morris Study, Analysis and Research Centre has even been able to trace the house where the above mentioned Queen Lola III was born. (Go to the house of Queen Lola III).

Elsewhere in the language textbook series, as a blushing young lad, I was introduced to the common Englishman by this: "This is John Smith. He's unemployed of course and tomatoes cost 2/6 a pound." The point here being that whatever you read about the Morris, it is probably just an opinion, if not a down right lie.

The Black Horse Morris is an equal opportunities employer and is open to women (gasp!). This is probably why it is the only Morris group in Barcelona. The others simply didn't have the bottle to face Olga.

Of course, the natty white suits, the bells and haute couture hats don't come cheap, and we are often obliged to play on the Ramblas to earn a little extra cash.

Here we see Tony, holding back one of our eager young "interns". The passer-by is only too willing to give over all his cash and doesn't need to be sprayed with a mouth-full of water.

And, of course, we shouldn't forget the Incredible Black Horse Orchestra, seen here in full swing, without whom we'd look like a right bunch of berks.
