The Sanctuary The Fair Sardanas Castellers

Then at eight, the Castellers or Human Towers come on. You can see La Colla Jove de Castellers de Sitges during one of their practice sessions, but today we get to see them strutting their stuff in public. Castellers are a classy crowd, and always travel and perform with their own band, called the Grallers.

Members of the Colla come in different shapes and sizes, each one having a specific job. Here we see the more enthusiastic of their members, the kids. Being smaller and lighter they get to reach the top of the Towers.

Before long the Grallers strike up and the first Tower is built. Grown men clamber over one another.

Followed by the kids on the other side. Unfortunately, light conditions being what they were, the photos of the complete Towers did not come out very well and this is all we have of the evening. (Fired yet again! Ed.)

After the Castellers we had more dancing and Fireworks at ten. Of course, yours truly could not be there as by then the last train from Sitges was leaving, and I didn't fancy being stuck in town overnight with Gormless Greg roaming the streets. (This is the worst journalist we've ever had! Ed.)

(Ed. That's the last time we use him! Fortunatelly, we managed to rescue one of the sets of Castellers' pictures. They're not the best quality, but what can you do when you hire idiots like this Ludovic. Go to towers, where you'll see a tower of 4 by 3 assembled, then a column of 4 assembled inside as the tower is dismantled.)
